Florida’s medical marijuana industry — valued at $1.3 billion as of June, 2021 — is expected to nearly double in size by the end of 2022. Surterra Wellness, a retail brand of Parallel, is a vertically integrated cannabis company that operates 44 medical marijuana treatment centers in the state, with more planned to open in 2022.
AIL Sound Walls is pleased to have been selected to design and supply a two-sided chiller yard noise barrier wall for Surterra’s Lakeland facility. Made from our Silent Protector (Absorptive) system, the project was carried out in two phases.

All images in this article are from the first phase which was carried out with Cole Contracting as our project partner. The second phase had us teamed up with Diaz Fritz as the General Contractor. The Acoustic Consultant was Siebein Associates for both phases. Siebein has been a valuable project partner on other AIL Sound Walls projects in the past, such as the rooftop mechanical yard enclosure for the Mystique Condo Development in Naples, Florida.
We encountered some grade changes in phase one and worked closely with our engineering team to ensure they were properly accommodated. The second phase was suspended for a period after we had already done our Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings. We worked with Diaz Fritz to confirm how material should be stored until the project resumes.
