The Foothills Retirement Community in Easley, South Carolina, is one of six not-for-profit complexes operated by Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC). Foothills sits on 68 beautifully landscaped acres with walking trails and sidewalks with scenic views of the mountains.
When PCSC needed to mitigate noise from a large exterior HVAC unit, they selected a Silent Protector (Absorptive) system from AIL Sound Walls after learning about all the features and benefits of our lightweight PVC noise barrier wall systems.

Because of their lighter weight (vs concrete, composite or wood) smaller foundations can be used and the sound walls can be installed more easily in tight work sites. This proved very beneficial as the new sound barrier wall ran between utility sheds and very close to the HVAC equipment.
New sound barrier wall is 23′ tall
Having partnered with them on several projects in the past, we were very pleased to be working again with our key account partner and acoustic consultant, Arpeggio, out of Atlanta.
The unit was on an elevated platform, so a 23′ high sound barrier was deemed necessary by Arpeggio. We designed our sound wall to meet the requirements and the 40′ run was flange-mounted to a series of five concrete pedestal footings.
We met with the installation contractor, Seegars Fence Company, over the shop drawings, production schedule and installation guidelines and all went well with the project.
One of the industry’s top-performing sound barriers
The Silent Protector sound absorption wall panels are engineered for maximum noise reduction. Made from recycled and recyclable perforated PVC panels and filled with acoustical mineral wool, Silent Protector is one of the industry’s top-performing sound walls, with a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of up to 39 and a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.95.
