AIL Sound Walls protect First Nation community from highway noise in Campbell River, BC

The Wei Wai Kum First Nation Reserve in urban Campbell River, BC, is bordered by busy Highway 19A as it passes through this small, picturesque city on the east coast of Vancouver Island.

The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure recently undertook a project to add a 2,625′ sound barrier wall along the highway to protect the residents from traffic noise. Our lightweight PVC AIL Sound Walls (Tuf-Barrier, Reflective) were selected for this project.

Due to the Ministry’s budgets, the project was undertaken in two phases or sections. Theses images are from the first phase of 1,411′. The second phase will soon be underway.

AIL Sound Walls are perfect for highway noise barriers

    The Piscataqua River Bridge is a 40-year-old structure connecting Portsmouth, NH, and Kittery, ME, with six lanes of traffic along Interstate 95 — the busiest roadway between the two states. The New Hampshire Department of Transportation needed a lightweight, durable sound barrier mounted to cast-in-place traffic barriers on one side of the bridge. The sound barrier is necessary to reduce the ever increasing traffic noise imposed on the Atlantic Heights neighbourhood below.
