Saint John Energy (SJE), a private utility that provides energy solutions to more than 36,000 residential and business customers in the city’s Uptown, was constructing a new electrical substation on Paradise Row. To allay nearby residents’ noise concerns, SJE needed an attractive and effective sound mitigation solution. They chose a Silent Protector (Absorptive) solution from AIL Sound Walls.
Made from lightweight PVC, AIL Sound Walls can easily be engineered to create customized equipment enclosures and screens. Access doors and ports are easily integrated for routine equipment maintenance, making our systems ideal noise barrier wall solutions for any type of equipment enclosure.
Working with consultant through early stages of sound barrier wall project
This was a longer-term project that we worked on, prior to the bid, with the consultant, CBCL, fielding the grounding and conductivity questions that are common to energy projects. There were multiple revisions of the site and the sound barrier wall layout, which we supported with revised preliminary designs and costings to help SJE get a perspective on the overall project costs prior to tender.
We also worked on-site with the contractor, Fundy Fencing, to navigate some grading and retaining wall challenges they faced. There was positive feedback from all parties involved — especially Fundy Fencing on the ease of install.
