Orangeville is a picturesque town in southern Ontario that recently won the People’s Choice Award for its main street in the Great Places in Canada Contest. So naturally, when it came to replacing/upgrading an old wooden noise fence backing some residential properties, the Town wanted a sound barrier wall that would “fit in” in every sense of the word:
- Fit in between the existing masonry pillars from their old noise fence
- Fit in aesthetically with the historical streetscapes
- Fit in to their tight, pre-winter construction schedule
- Fit in with residents’ expectations for improved noise mitigation
The AIL Sound Walls team came up with a Silent-Protector (Absorptive) solution that fit their needs perfectly.
Integrating the Silent Protector with existing masonry pillars
The old wooden noise fence had deteriorated; however, its classic masonry pillars were still in good condition and the Town wanted the new wall to integrate with them. Our in-house engineering team quickly came up with an attractive connection solution to make that work.
Blending in with the streetscape
In order to maintain design consistencies in the Orangeville community, aesthetic considerations were very important. AIL Sound Walls are available in a variety of design configurations and standard or custom colors/textures. In this case, our Tan color was selected as it blended in well with the surrounding streetscape.
Meeting a tight construction schedule
With the oncoming winter season and residents having their private yards exposed during demolition/construction, the Town wanted to get the new wall installed quickly. We were able to expedite the approval of our solution and get materials to the site promptly. Our lightweight PVC walls install quickly without heavy lifting equipment, so the installation was done within a week.
Protecting the silence
Most important of all was the improved noise mitigation for the residents. AIL’s Silent Protector absorptive sound wall barrier system is engineered for maximum sound reduction. Made from recycled and recyclable PVC, this industry-leading system boasts an STC (Sound Transmission Class) rating of up to 36 and an NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) of 1.0.
Solution draws positive feedback from community
In post-project follow-up, Town officials relayed that they have received many compliments and positive feedback from residents and Council members.
