Engineered sound mitigation solutions for data centers have been an important part of the AIL Sound Walls commercial project portfolio for many years. Back in 2013, we were pleased to partner with leading contractor EllisDon on an equipment enclosure for the Savvis Data Center in Markham, Ontario.
At the time, this was Savvis’ fourth Canadian data center among 55 it owned worldwide. Designed to serve growing demand for access to secure colocation, managed hosting and cloud services in Canada, the 100,000-square-foot TR3 data center supported up to five megawatts of IT load. Through a series of acquisitions, Savvis is now owned by Lumen Technologies, Inc.
Our Silent Protector (Absorptive) sound barrier wall ran 156 m around the external equipment layout which was adjacent to the parking area. A series of traffic bollards protected the finished noise barrier wall.
Sound wall project featured optional covered posts
For a cleaner aesthetic, this project featured matching PVC post sleeves and integrated access doors, shown under construction below.
Silent Protector: top-performing data center noise barrier walls
Our Silent Protector sound absorption wall panels are engineered for maximum noise reduction. Made from recycled and recyclable perforated PVC panels and filled with acoustical mineral wool, Silent Protector is one of the industry’s top-performing sound walls, with a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of up to 39 and a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.95.
